THERMAL INSTABILITIES

IN TOKAMAK PLASMAS

Fusion Research Center

Instabilities in the plasma power balance produce a number of observed phenomena which may limit the performance achievable with Tokamak plasmas (e.g. radiative collapse leading to disruption, MARFEs, enhanced transport) and may lead to power excursions in burning plasmas.  Investigation of thermal instabilities in Tokamak plasmas has been a research focus in the Georgia Tech Fusion Research Center for several years.
